Passion 2012

Passion 2012 has taken over the Atlanta Georgia Dome! Young people ranging in age from 18-25... 45,000 of them... have taken over the city of Atlanta this week. I volunteered two years ago for this awesome event, and left forever changed. You can watch the live stream of the events this week on the Passion website. Here is the link:

I hope you all will be able to stream in for one or all of the sessions. Louie Giglio, John Piper, Francis Chan, Beth Moore are just a few of the amazing friends who help lead worship during Passion. You can check out all the others here.

This year's theme is "A Generation United for Freedom." The goal is to raise $1,000,000 to fund organizations that are fighting to bring prevention, freedom, and restoration to those trapped in slavery. Awesome to see young people (18-25) give so freely of their resources to help others when our nation struggles daily with selfishness and greed. You can learn more about donating if you feel so led here.

This morning while eating breakfast with my six-year old nephew at Chick-Fil-A in our hometown, several car loads of young people entered the establishment. They sat at the tables surrounding us and I could hear them talking about "passion." When we started to leave, I turned around and asked if they were headed to Atlanta to the Passion conference. I got an overwhelming response from these young people who begin eagerly asking how I knew about Passion. I was able to share my volunteer experience from 2009. Awesome to connect with them this morning (and I am praying specifically for this group... Yay God for giving me a part in the 2012 Passion conference even though I'm not able to volunteer!)

I am praying for our God to show up in a BIG way this week in Atlanta and in the hearts of those 45,000 young people in attendance and all the volunteers working behind the scenes being "door keepers."

"Better is one day in your court than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked."

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! Here is what I'm loving this Wednesday...

My Keurig Brewer

My new strand of pearls. (I wore them with a t-shirt and jeans to Target yesterday).

That I got to hear Coach Nick Saban speak last week! Being a Bama fan, I am partial to him, but even my Auburn buddies said he gave a great talk to our young people who were being honored for their football season that evening.

My new Paul Mitchell shampoo.

That my house is CLEAN. I have been home from work for two weeks and have had the chance to deep clean. It feels awesome!

That almost EVERYTHING on my to-do list is crossed off! I made a list of things I wanted to accomplish this Christmas break and I am almost done. Yay!

So many families who will not celebrate Christmas the way they expected. Praying for those who are facing medical issues, the loss of loved ones and situations that may not be "perfect." The best gift you can give yourself is a relationship with Jesus Christ. Praying all my family and friends receive that gift this year.

Box of Christmas "Dollars"...

My five-year old nephew, Connor, asked for "dollars" for Christmas. He is really into having his own money in his wallet so he can buy something he wants. I think it is kind of fun that he is learning how to count and spend his money and save a little at the same time.

I came up with this fun way to give him his "dollars" on Christmas morning!

Start with 25 $1.00 bills....

Find a small box that will hold the money and some masking tape...

Tape the money together on the back...

Roll the money up...

Cut a slit in the top of the box so that the dollar bills will be easily pulled out of the opening and place the rolled up money inside, pulling the first bill through...

Attach a tag instructing them to "pull" for their Christmas surprise...

Can't wait to see his face when he starts pulling out the "dollars" and they just keep on coming!

Making Memories...

One of the things I love to do during the holidays is spend some time with my nephews. My mom sent us a gingerbread mini village kit to make together. Let me just say that next year we will request a full size house again. This was TOUGH to put together, but we still had fun. Only the walls of my house came tumbling down.

With 2011 coming to a close and a new year beginning, I can't help but reflect on how blessed I am and how many times God's amazing grace was visible in my life this year. My hope for the New Year is that I continue to grow into the young woman God intends me to be and that I faithfully follow him.

"In a few days, we will hear the story of Mary and Joseph arriving in Bethlehem, knocking on door after door, looking for a place to stay for the birth of their child. Luke’s Gospel tells us that she wrapped her newborn in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room at the inn.

The words are familiar to us, and it is easy to think, as with any often repeated story that ...it happened a long time ago. But, in fact, the story is happening right now. God is knocking at the door, asking to enter, in every moment of our lives. Isn’t that amazing?

All too often we re-enact the innkeepers’ response, telling God with our words and actions that there is “no room at the inn.” Maybe we are moving so fast that we can’t slow down to even answer the door. Maybe there is so much noise that we don’t hear the knock. Perhaps it has been so long since we answered God’s knocking that we have actually forgotten how to sit still, how to listen or how to open the door. Or maybe, if we are really honest, we are afraid of what might happen if we did let God in.

And God knocks in a myriad of ways: a baby crying for attention, a child asking us to play, a coworker asking us to cover for them, patient trying to understand her test results or an old man sitting in a waiting room alone. The knock can come when we are asked to take on a new role or responsibility. Indeed, the question is not if God is knocking, the question is whether or not we are listening and whether or not we will open the door.

God’s invitation to “Be still, and know that I am God” is difficult to many of us, yet it can be reassuring to remember that this struggle is not new and we are not alone. God has been issuing the invitation all along, knocking on the doors of our lives, asking “Can you hear me? May I come in? Do you have time?”

In this season of Advent, wherever you are and whatever you are doing, may you know that in every moment God is knocking at the door of your life, asking to come in. Isn’t that amazing?"

I love when I am reading a blog and something shared just grabs a hold of me and draws me in. Today's Sunday Song is a song called "Hope" that was posted on Spreading Her Wings blog. It is a beautiful song with a awesome message that He is our hope.

During the holiday season when we all get busy with parties, family gatherings, shopping and the daily grind of life, let's not forget the real reason for the season - Jesus! Life Planner...

A few weeks ago I ordered my Life Planner from ErinCondren.com. It arrived in the mail this week, and I have to admit that I am attached to it. The lady at the post office commented on the "cute" box I received and had it not been for the long line of people behind me, I might have opened it up right there and shared with her my new found love!

It was packaged inside so neatly and I loved all the fun "extras" that Erin and her team included. I love gift packaging and have been on the hunt for the perfect paper to use my "samples" with.

I had a hard time choosing which design to get, but finally decided on the Taffy Stripes. It turned out perfect and I love using it.

I gifted my sister with an e-certificate for Christmas and she ordered hers a few weeks ago as well. I have also ordered one as a gift from the Sorority Line recently launched at ErinCondren.com as another gift.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

I apologize for the lack of posting on my part recently. I miss blogging and visiting with you each day. I am at a season in my life where I am re-evaluating a lot of things and making some changes. I am learning to say no and not feel guilty, and I am learning that I cannot be all things to all people. It has been an eye-opening experience but one that is making me feel better about myself and will make me a better person.

I hope to be back blogging with you on a regular basis in December. Until then, please cherish your family and friends and be thankful for ALL things.

Weekend Wrap Up!

What a great weekend... Here are just a few of the highlights:

Varsity volleyball team won their sub-state match on Thursday night and are headed to the state tournament tomorrow and Thursday! Looking forward to sharing in these next two days with them and hoping they bring the state title back to the school.
Varsity football team won their last area game on Friday clinching a spot in the state playoffs and hosting the first round. So proud of these young men!
Had a FABULOUS time in Tuscaloosa this weekend pulling for the Tide. Looking forward to November 5 when the LSU Tigers roll into town!
Received my new houndstooth jacket from Zulilly.com! I am in love with it.
Ordered my very own Erin Condren Life Planner! Can't wait for it to get here. Already bought my new colored pens to begin filling it in when it arrives.

The Life I Planned...

These past few weeks I've been dealing with being "content" in my life and resting securely in knowing that God does have a plan for my life and he hasn't forgotten me. A dear friend emailed me this poem this weekend and I sobbed as I read it. I've started trying to live the life I planned instead of believing His plans for me are the best! What an awesome reminder of his love for me...

Finally Friday...

I am so looking forward to a weekend of no plans, no set agendas and the ability to rest. Don't get me wrong - I love the hustle of the fall with football games, tailgating, school activities and weekends with friends. But, I also love my rest! Looking forward to some great quiet time, a big cup of coffee, napping on the couch and staying in my oversized sweatshirt all weekend!

Tuesday Tidbits

We had two days off from school and as much as I've enjoyed the break I am ready to be back in the office. I am not a "suzy-homemaker" and do not enjoy being domestic on my off days. I would rather be running wild at the office - checking emails, answering phone calls and planning events!

Just a couple of things I wanted to share with you on this Tuesday evening -

In March I started really watching what I ate and added in consistent exercise. Today I am down 28.4 lbs with 10 lbs left to reach my goal weight by December. I am beginning a new food plan and workout plan tomorrow under the guidance of a personal trainer. We met tonight to review the plans and can I just tell you I am scared to death?! Not of the eating part, I can handle that, but the workout is intense! I believe I can do it and will not quit, but I am a little overwhelmed at the program. No pain, no gain I suppose! : ) Say a little prayer for me..

Sorry for the lack of posts lately (well, the past three months). Life has been a little overwhelming and the blog took a back seat. I hope to be more consistent now and get back into a better blogging routine. I miss those who have become my friends and hope to get around to visit you more often.

I was so excited to get the chance to participate in one of Mamarazzi's swaps. My partner was Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos.

We Are Alabama...

I am so excited that Alabama football kicks off this Saturday. It's gonna be great to be in Tuscaloosa with family and friends cheering for the Tide, but it also going to be a day full of emotion as the city continues to rebuild after the April 27 tornado. Looking forward to being in Bryant-Denny Stadium and hearing "Roll Tide Roll!"

I am in charge of the desserts this week for the tailgate party. Here are the three desserts I am making to take this weekend:

I normally would not post two Sunday Songs in one day, but after being in the house of the Lord this morning, I feel the need to share this song at this time. The lyrics are below for you to read.

Our community is hurting today with the loss of a Anniston police officer killed in the line of duty last week. An innocent child of God who was protecting the community we live in and yet, it has shaken not only our little town, but the nation. Today at 2 P.M. officers and law enforcement personnel will assemble to pay their respects to Officer Justin Sollohub, 27 years old, and his family. Tomorrow this precious life will be laid to rest with the fullest honors. As the niece of a police chief, I can't imagine the sacrifices this family has made over the past three years as they sent their son and brother into our community each day to protect and serve. Praying for them today as well as the uniformed personnel who protect and serve us!

Prayer requests for those with cancer, facing divorce, addictions, financial needs... The list goes on and on. My heart is so burdened. Our nation, the east coast affected by Irene, our soldiers... Our world, nation, state, city is hurting and we all need to "call out to God" to heal us.

Yes. I've always been honest with my friends even if the truth hurt and would hope they would do the same for me.

Soda in a bottle.

3. What do you wash first, hair or body?

I wash my hair first. I follow the same routine every morning - hair, face, body and shave (if needed).

4. What advice would you give to any new mama?

I am not a mama, but my sister has two boys. I think the biggest thing she learned was to let people help you those first few weeks you are home. You are not expected to be "super-mom" with a newborn.

5. What is your best hangover remedy?

Large, greasy cheeseburger with fries and a large Coke.

Thursday Tidbits

I took two days of vacation this week and had a really long to-do list ready for these two days. However, after chaperoning our youth lock-in last night from 6PM to 6AM that list is still as long as it was yesterday afternoon. Guess I will start on it in the morning and try to cross some things off by tomorrow night!

I was excited today when the doorbell rang and it was the UPS man with my new Nike running/walking shoes. I am now walking 3.0 - 3.5 miles per day and I was in need of a new pair. So excited to put these on tomorrow and hit the track!

I won a giveaway for a $50 shop credit from Gussy Sews. Love, love this shop and all the cool fabrics and items Gussy creates. I chose a Round Damask Make-Up Bag for myself and it is already full and in my purse. I am so in love with my new make-up bag and it fits great in my purse. I got to chaperone a trip to Auburn University this week with a group of our upcoming juniors and seniors to visit the campus and meet with the dean of Business and Engineering. I am a HUGE fan of the Crimson Tide, but love visiting Auburn because of the yummy lemonade at Toomer's Drugs. We treated the students to lemonade before heading out in the heat on campus to tour. So good!

Saturday Snippets

Looking forward to a couple of vacation days this week, but that means I have to put in a little time on the weekend to get everything done before I leave the office on Wednesday. I worked a couple of hours this morning and will work a few tomorrow. Mostly sending emails and pulling a few reports so it is not too bad!

Today was a day to clean, clean, clean and organize! I deep cleaned my kitchen, den, guest bedroom, half bath and full bath. Tomorrow I will finish in my master bedroom. This little townhouse had a lot of "stuff" in it! It feels good to get organized and be able to donate lots of things I don't need or use anymore.

I won some super fun giveaways this week and can't wait to get my goodies from Gussy Sews and Pitter Patter Press. If you haven't visited their shops, please do! They have the cutest things.

Happy 60th Anniversary!

I feel extremely blessed that I still have my paternal grandparents in my life. On Thursday, June 30, 2011, they celebrated 60 years of marriage together. What a milestone! They have set an example of love and partnership that is not witnessed very often in today's society. I am thankful for their example of love and commitment to each other, God and their family.

Sausage and Cheese Muffins

These are my favorite take to Sunday School or make on Christmas morning with the family muffins.

1 lb. sausage, cooked and drained

1 1/2 c. sharp shredded cheddar cheese

1 can cheddar cheese soup

3 c. Bisquick

1/2 c. water

Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease a mini-muffin pan. Cook sausage and drain. Mix sausage with Bisquick and set aside. Combine shredded cheese, soup and water together. Add cheese mixture to bowl with sausage and Bisquick, and mix until dough is formed. Spoon into mini-muffin pan and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until tops are brown. Enjoy!

Pray for Alabama

I still cannot begin to process or put into words the devastation in Alabama. We went to volunteer yesterday but were turned away because they had too many volunteers for the day. They had over 500+ show up by 8 A.M. and had no more bus space available to get us in the areas. Wow! I was discouraged but also so thankful that my community has stepped up to help our neighbors in need. We instead took supplies and water to a local agency that was loading an 18-wheeler to transport items into the affected areas.

Gov. Bentley has called for a "Day of Prayer" today. Will you take a moment to pray for my home state and for all those affected?

I have no words... My heart is broken for my home state of Alabama. Thankfully, all my family is safe and all my students who attend the University of Alabama are unharmed. However, they have lost friends, sorority sister, fraternity brothers, campus workers who cared about them and were friends. There lives have been devastated by the destruction.

Please keep our state in your prayers! We will come back. We will rebuild. We will stay strong. Only God can heal our wounds.

Hmm... Two random facts about myself that you don't already know.

1. I have to shave my legs every other day - even in the winter. I cannot stand the feeling of "stubble" on my legs.

2. I make my bed every morning and the kitchen has to be clean every night before I go to bed. Everything else in my townhouse can be a disaster, but these two things have to be done on a daily basis. My grandmother believed in doing these two things everyday, so I do get it honest!

Do you know what one of my favorite things about Spring is? Wood swing sets. I love swinging on the swings. It makes me feel like such a kid and for a few brief moments, I forget about all the responsibilities I have of being an adult.

I apologize for the lack of posting this week. It has been a very long, emotional week. I have so many friends who are hurting right now and my heart is so full for them all. I have shared this song so many times this week that I felt it only appropriate to post it as my Sunday Song.
If you will, please remember the following situations in your prayers and thoughts this week:

Our school band director is battling leiomyosarcoma. He is and his family (wife and three kids) relocated to Houston, TX, last October to be closer to MD Anderson and his doctors. He had scans today and will know results on Tuesday. Please pray that this regiment of chemo is working and his tumor is shrinking.
One of our English/Journalism teachers is pregnant with twin girls. They think she is forming Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. She is in Cincinnati this week for in-utero surgery on Monday. Please pray for her, her husband, these precious baby girls and the doctors and nurses who will be performing this surgery on her.
One of my dear friends from college lost her aunt and uncle last night in a head-on collision. Her aunt was more of a sister, as she lost her mom 20 years ago and they helped to raise her. Her aunt and uncle were also raising their granddaughters. Both girls survived. Please pray for healing and comfort for this family in their loss, and for these two precious girls who are recovering from their injuries.
My aunt and uncle are now facing the reality of what they lost in the fire two weeks ago. We are thankful for their safety and that they have a place to stay, but I can't imagine not having a "home" to go to. Please pray for them as they begin the process of rebuilding and all the emotions they will face.

I can't help but be humbled as I write this post and thankful for all the blessings I have in my life. Lord, please help me to be a comfort to these during their time of need. Help them to see you in my words and actions.

Last Saturday (01/08), my aunt and her family lost their house in a fire. They lost everything! This week my family has clung to Psalm 46:1 and the song "Praise You In This Storm" by Casting Crowns.

We are so thankful for their safety! Count your blessings each and every day. We all have them in our lives, even if we are facing storms.

Snow and Ice 2011

I think I have a post-it note addiction. These were all in my work bag that I cleaned out during the ice/snow storm of 2011.

We went back to school on Thursday. Some of our sister schools are still not back in session because the snow and ice is not melting fast enough for the roads to be safe in rural areas. The following are just a few pictures of the snow and ice left on our campus this week. Enjoy!

I am loving unexpected mail from friends with small gifts... Totally made my week!

I am loving that I have been home for three days and stayed in my jammies until late afternoon, but...

I am loving that I get to go back to school tomorrow and see my fellow teachers and students.

I am loving my new low-carb meal plans and the grocery lists for ingredients that go along with it. Cooking has never been so much fun and grocery shopping easier... and I am eating healthy!

I am loving my new bed that my parents bought me as an early birthday present. Can't wait to get the rest of the room together.

Top 2 Tuesday: Strange Addictions

This week's Top Two Tuesday's topic is Strange Addictions:

1. I have to put my earrings, ring and bracelet in my mini jewelry bowl on my dresser each night before I go to bed. I can't sleep knowing that it is not in there. When I travel I find something similar and put my jewelry in it on a dresser or bedside table.

2. My rain boots have to be beside the dryer in front of the back door on the mat. I don't put them in a closet or move them from this location. Not sure why I feel they have to be there, but I don't move them from this spot. I guess if I have to go outside I will always have shoes available!

Snow Day!

This is the second day we are home from school because of the weather. As much as I hate the thought of having to make-up two days of school, I am grateful for the way our Heavenly father has a way of slowing things down. I really needed this time at home to rest, relax and reconnect in his word. I have been able to organize my office space as well as purge some closets and get rid of the old to make room for the new. I am caught up on all I can do from home for work, and that makes going back a little easier. It has been a productive time for me, mixed in with some winter fun in the snow and time to just be still.

I have a dear friend from college who works for an organization called SIFAT (Servants in Faith and Technology). I blogged about SIFAT, and Nate and Laura's wedding a little over a year ago. I recently had the chance to go and visit them, and let me just tell you, I left with such a heavy heart. Being with them and two of their staff members reminded me of just how truly blessed I am and how much of my life I take for granted. Hearing the work they are doing and the people's lives they are impacting made me realize that I can do more - locally and internationally. As I enter this New Year, my prayer is very similar to the words of this song...

1. What did you do in 2010 that you had never done before?

Learned to sew on my new sewing machine.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions and will you make more for next year?

I don't think I kept them like I had hoped too. Here are my top two for 2011!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

My family was blessed with the new addition of my cousin's little girl.. Annleigh Grace

4. Did anyone close to you die?

I did not lose anyone close to me this year.

5. What places have you visited?

Mt. Dora, FL; Orlando, FL; Calhoun, GA; No big trips this year for me!

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?

More time with friends! I had lots of time with my family, but had little time to go out and visit with friends.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched in your memory and why?

January 1 - 4, 2010... Got to spend three days in Atlanta being a "door-holder" for 21,000 college students during Passion 2010

8. What was your biggest achievement this year?

Learning to say no!

9. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I did not have any major illnesses or surgery in 2010. Let's hope for the same in 2011!

I was 32 this year - or as I told my students - I am celebrating my 16th birthday times 2! My parents came into town and we had dinner together, and my 3&4 year old cubbies also threw me a little party at church.

Healthcare reform... I read the entire bill!

20. Who was the best new person you met?

I was so blessed to meet lots of new friends this year through work, church and my blog! The "best" new person I met was my cousin Scott's wife Tammy. What an amazing wife and friend! Can't wait to spend more time with them.

White Christmas in Bama 2010

"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas"... When James Spann and ABC 33/40 reported that we might have snow on Christmas I have to be honest and say that I did not get my hopes up. My parents were coming in town from south Alabama, and I knew it would be a great surprise that day, but I really did not believe it would happen.

Well, I am here to say that I should have believed! What a beautiful blessing on Christmas to watch snow fall outside. Here are a few pictures of the snow in our area that day!

We woke up to find that Santa had eaten almost all of his brownie and cupcake, and left only a little of his milk...

Looks like he let his reindeer in out of the cold as well...

**My sister's husband has a son who joined us that afternoon but Santa went ahead and left his presents for him.

Christmas Eve Recap 2010

I mentioned before that this was the first Christmas in 32 years that we would not be at my parents home. We made the decision to spend Christmas at my sister's this year so that we could be with my nephews that morning for Santa presents.

Christmas Eve we did not attend a church service as we always have, but instead ate BBQ and spent time watching "A Christmas Story" as a family. Enjoy these pictures from Christmas Eve!

Top 2 Tuesday: New Years Resolutions

1. Weight Loss (or as I like to say "Gettin' Healthy")....

This is something I have struggled with my whole life. I am not obesely overweight, but I do not fall into the category of "normal" by my doctor's standards. At my last check-up he strongly encouraged me to lose 15-20 pounds. My family history includes high blood pressure, high cholesterol and breast cancer. He said that by changing my lifestyle and making "healthier" decisions, I would greatly reduce my risks. Thank the Lord I have a friend who is going to be my accountability partner through this process. Exercise, a low-carb diet and better choices when it comes to my body are on the New Year's agenda.

2. Spending time in prayer and reflection....

I lost my way so many times this past year because instead of being still and listening, I got caught up in the "act" of doing and the hustle and bustle of life. I always feel so much better if I start my mornings in devotion and prayer. I hope to begin a new routine in the morning and maximize my quiet time before I begin the business of work and life in general.

Twas the Night Before Christmas...

Christmas Eve... My first Christmas not at "home". For 32 years, we have celebrated Christmas at my parents home. This year they will be with my sister and I at her home. A little bittersweet yet at the same time so exciting because we are making new memories and starting new traditions with my nephews.

I am looking forward to ...spending the night with them and waking up to Santa... having a "Happy Birthday Jesus" party... Christmas service at church in the morning... and all the laughter and giggles that will take place from being with my family.

The Boston butt is in the oven to cook, all the presents are wrapped, stockings are stuffed and my parents are on their way. What a beautiful day!

Thank you Lord for the small blessings in our lives.

Wow! It has been awhile since I posted. I have been traveling, celebrating and reflecting on this past year. I am so blessed and I am reminded of this everyday. Thank you Lord for the little reminders of your love and grace during this holiday season.

My parents will be joining my sister and I this year for Christmas. Our first Christmas not at "home". But we are so excited to be starting new traditions this year with my nephews! Here are a few pictures from our family Christmas celebrations last weekend.

Sara Grace is my baby cousin and has a huge place in my heart. She is 10 years younger than I and when she was born I loved her like my own little baby. She just recently competed for Miss Rodeo America and while there became engaged to the love of her life. I couldn't be happier for her and look forward to watching her and Chase grow together as a couple.

And here is her BEAUTIFUL ring... A blue diamond! It is a perfect fit for her. Chase did a great job. Looking forward to their wedding in Vegas in December 2011.

My Aunt Cindy and her granddaughter Preston... She was diagnosed with breast cancer seven days before Christmas last year and is now a Survivor! We had a lot to celebrate this year.
